We define changemakers as individuals from all walks of life on a mission to make a positive impact in their communities and beyond. Black History Month is an opportunity to showcase the diversity of a community that helps propel change on a local and national level.

Cricket HBCU Campus Ambassadors
February 2023, we launched a social first initiative to spotlight organizations close to the hearts of our HBCU Campus Ambassadors. In addition to amplifying their contributions as changemakers, year to date Cricket has donated $11,000 to support those who fuel positive change on and off campus. We are delighted to continue getting to know the causes that resonate with our ambassadors. Our latest giveback showcases Kentucky State student-athlete, Sydney T. sharing why The Kings Center is a vital part of her community. You can catch these features on Instagram and LinkedIn.

You Can Call on Me
A changemaker is someone you can call on. On social media we’ll be featuring a changemaker who is delivering impact in their community. Christina Richardson is an award-winning filmmaker and founder of The Bronx Film Initiative. Christina’s work creates access and elevates the voices of those in marginalized communities. Get to know this changemaker when the campaign launches Friday, February 9.

Celebrating Changemakers in our Neighborhoods
#CricketNation understands that changemakers go the extra smile to serve their communities. Throughout the month, we’ll collaborate with everyday leaders to create meaningful connections across the country in the neighborhoods we serve.
  • Atlanta – In our hometown, we are sponsoring the month-long Atlanta Music Project fifth annual Music of the Black Diaspora recitals. Aligned with our passion for youth development, for 14 years AMP has been serving under-resourced communities by providing music training and performance opportunities to children between the ages of eight to 18. Over the course of eight performances, attendees at this year’s recital will experience electrifying sounds from across the African diaspora.
  • Oakland – In the Golden State we are collaborating with Home of Chicken & Waffles to serve hot meals to members of Boys & Girls Clubs of Oakland during their Black History Month celebration. The festivities includes a poetry reading, performance from Jump Squad 510 and creating a mural.
  • Los Angeles – Residents in the city of Angels can stop by local Cricket stores to support Black owned food truck, John’s BBQ. Throughout the month of February tune into Stevie Wonder’s radio station 102.3 FM KJLH to learn more.
  • Washington, DC – At the annual DC Black History Film Festival we will celebrate Black heritage via the arts and sponsor the official reception.
  • Northern Virgina – Cricket is a sponsor of The 24th Annual Virginia Black History Month Gala. The Falls Church event will host approximately 700 attendees celebrating this year’s theme of African American Art. Our support benefits the numerous scholarships for high school students and winners of the Annual Children’s Writing Contest.
  • Phoenix – We are collaborating with Upscale Barbershop to host a block party recognizing local changemakers. The black-owned shop will provide free haircuts to the community Tuesday, February 27.
  • Vallejo, CA – A More Excellent Way is a health organization dedicated to supporting the needs of African American expectant fathers and pregnant and breastfeeding women. At the organization’s 19th annual Solano County African American Community Baby Shower, Cricket will be supplying portable cribs and highchairs to parents to be.

Everyday changemakers inspire smiles and move the needle of progress. Join us for these events in your neighborhood and follow us on social media for highlights as we celebrate Black History Month.
